You'll get a range of responses on this one, and a lot depends on your driving habits. Aside from the oil-on-MAF issue, the reason permanent element filters like K&N claim greater volume flow is they let larger particles through. For a project car that spends most of its time at a drag strip or clean roads, that's fine. But my daily driver goes through dusty environments every day, so I'll stick with the paper element filters. The stock SVT filter only has 2% flow losses, which 3X better than the standard box filter, but with all the particle protection. Maybe the K&N reduces that to 1%, but that's miniscule stuff, and not worth the extra maintenance and possible operating hassles, in my mind.
