Please, please, please post the result of changing the bushings. I have the same exact problem with my 98 Mystique.
I've had the rattle for a while now, just as you said - when driving over uneven pavement. I bet you don't hear anything when on a nice, smooth highway. Recently I had my brakes done. When the mechanic test drove the car to check the brakes, he noticed the rattle on his own. He thought it was because of the struts. So I took the car to my dealer's service because I have a "Premiumcare" extended warranty that covers struts. After not properly informing me about the progress of my car, I ended up leaving it overnight. This morning I go to pick it up and he has the balls to tell me the struts are OK and charges me my $50 deductable without solving my rattle problem. The mechanic said he doesn't hear anything. I hate dealing with them!
Anyway, when's your appointment? I'm anxious to hear what happens.
