Thanks for the advice guys.

I went to the local Ford dealer and bought a Motorcraft thermostat, figured that was the quick and easy thing to do. But I accidentially stripped the lower of the three bolts in the thermostat housing!!

Any advice on how to get the damn thing out?? I'm scared of stripping it even more now...

Allright, finally got the Motorcraft thermostat I bought at the Ford dealer installed and it seems like the temperature now stays at the L in normal consistently! Whoohoo....

that still seems pretty high, my car runs around the O in normal unless I come off the highway directly into stop and go trafic. Even then the farthest it gets is around the right side of the M. Seems a bit sketchy still...

Is your radiator fan running? If so, what does the gauge read when the fan comes on?

Hmmm... the fan does run I am pretty sure... will check at what temperature it turns on as soon as I get off work.

The radiator fan runs off the temperature sensor on top of the thermostat housing, correct?

If I find that it comes on too late should I replace the sensor, or should I start somewhere else?

thanks!

Tom
