My 2000 has everything except leather (did not want leather anyway) I have Keyless entry, Moonroof, Folding Rear seats, PATS, Premium sound, Spoiler(Well ok I had a spoiler until I traded trunk lids to get one without one), power windows /locks, cruise, 4 wheel disk brakes, Leather wrapped steering wheel, Leather shift knob, (Crappy) leather shift and E-break boots, V6, MTX, whatever other options you could get pretty much (except smokers package)

I didn't buy mine new but I have: Leather Wheel 7 Spoke Alloy 15" Traction Control Spoiler CD Premium sound (Replaced with Aiwa CD-MP3 real premium sound) No keyless entry either, but added it aftermarket (Viper 600 Alarm). Installer added solenoid for remote trunk release too. Factory Fog Lamps (Part of Sport Package?) Fold Down rear seats And of course, a very lovely sounding DOHC V6. No rear disks with ATX though. Wanted stick, but the better half wanted to able to drive it and she only has 2 feet and 3 pedals is one too many! No moonroof either.

OK, about later SE's. They were moved down to take the GL and LX spot. Ford dumped the 'GL' trim name from all their cars in '98. So, the SVT took the top spot from the "real SE's".
One could get the Duratec V6 in any Contour trim, not just the Sport models. The same with Alloys, many Zetec cars have them. GL and LX Sports, with either 4 or a V6, were made from '96 to early 98. 1998.5-2000 SE Sports are V6 only cars.
I have a 2000 SE, no Sport trim, with a 6. I have seen LX and GL sixes.

I am not saying you are wrong, in fact, you are probably right. But that was the public offering. I know that lease and rentals can get combinations of engines and trim that aren't at the dealer. My company bought 1997 Intrepids, base trim, with the 3.5L V6. You could not get this from the dealer. but these cars are now recycled into the used car market. So some people have bought used Intrepids with a motor/trim combo that wasn't offered to the general public. I bet there are plenty of Contour combo's out there that were purchased by GE Capital or PHH leasing that weren't available in the catalog. that might account for some of the odd trim combos.

I just don't understand why Ford calls some of their cars, "Sports." My frind has a 96 Contour "Sport," and it isn't that sporty. It has fog lights and 15" Alloys.... it doesn't even have a spoiler!!! And the Escort "Sport??" They put a spoiler on the back and it's a sport. Still has the same 13" wheel covers and 110-h.p. engine.... jees! What is with these people. My Contour is a Sport, but I don't think it desearves that title... it has a V6, Spoiler, Fogs, and leather wrapped steering and shifter.... I would consider it a Sport if it also included a moonroof, ground-effects, 16" rims, and maybe a cooler exhaust.... THAT is a Sport.... I love Ford, I just don't understand Sport.... -Jonathan Oh, and by the way, on the Ranger Sport..... the 4.0 liter not available with the Sport package (or it used to)....wtf?
