Can't just limit it to compacts/imports. Couldn't they get sued for stereotyping or for the lack of a better word discriminating?(sp?)
Profiling is illegal. BUT, that's a racial type thing. But how hard is it to hear a fart can? How hard is it to see no reflectors...or clears...or whatever is illegal? They know it's illegal when they mod it, but even if they are ignorant of the local laws....that's no excuse. Think if you are a cop and 1 outta 50 cars are modified (or whatever)...they stand out. What would you do if you were behind that badge and you see something you KNOW is illegal.
I'm not going to tell anyone what to do or not to do, but learn from others mistakes before you make the same one. That video says a lot. Remember, no one ever thinks something like that can happen to them....until it does.
My beef is that where I live I never see white dudes get pulled over on their harley's which are RIDICULOUSLY loud and flat out noisy, yet I get told that my stereo is too loud and bothering people even though the cop pulled me over in a ghetto neighborhood where people are nodding their heads to my stereo while I'm parked at a light. That is total bullshit if you ask me

That's why I drive a Contour. NOTHING justifies ticketing me and towing my car cause it has tinted windows and a lowered suspension. My Corvette has a low suspension from the factory...gonna get towed in BC. My Ferrari has a low suspesion from the factory...gonna get towed in BC. There needs to be something that defines responsible vs. irresponsible. I'd raise a stink.
What about your SVT isn't it lowered from the factory???
Indeed it is! Better get it towed away. I'm a hazard to society and it's highways. Speed Demon - LOL!! It's those darn Canadians and their flopping heads! BTW - side note - I loved BC when I went there. Very pretty area, very clean, very friendly.

A friend of mine here has a slammed truck and he was ticketed for being too "low"... Whats funny is that he has a suspended DL, expired tags/inspection AND the truck doesn't even HAVE seat belts!!! But the ticket was for ridin low... oh yeah and the cop thought that the cylinders in the bed were NOS... Goof Troop... Gotta love em.. but I can't complain. I get out of tickets often and I have yet to be pulled over for no front plate

I'll have to agree and disagree. Street racing without a doubt should be illegal. If you're any good at it, you're zoned in and wouldn't be able to stop if a non-related bystander/car got in your path. However, pulling people over for doing things to their car that makes them faster (exhaust work) or makes them look faster (tint, fart can) is ludicrous.
Why don't they ticket people who go to they gym, take karate or boxing, or people who buy a gun? All these things if used incorrectly are very dangerous. If I drive my mom's minivan recklessly, I'm going to get myself in trouble. Ticket people for racing, not looking like racers.

First off SVT's aren't lowered from the factory. They just appear lower than other Contours because of the body kit. Secondly here is not too big a problem around here with street racing. But I've seen races going on along "dead" roads late at night, with the cops watching from the overpass?! Thirdly, why do I get in trouble for having my stereo too loud, but the Dang ice cream truck with the ridiculously annoying and repetitive music can go blaring through my neighborhood, drawing people out of their houses and never get any grief for it?!!! Justice will never be served...

I wonder if they're tow rusty cars with holes in the exhaust over because they're "illegally modified".

Yes, cars in Colorado can get pulled over for having rusted holes in the exhaust, but thats an emisions ticket, not inllegally modified.
There are lots of other cars out there that also cause danger becuase they are old, brakes are bad, alignment is way off... tow those cars and make people get new ones dammit!
Just because a car is modified doesn't mean that person is going to street race. Thats just plain dumb. Street racing has always gone on (anyone remember the races in Geece with those muscle cars?) It's American heritage. (I'm gonna get flamed for that one.)

hey, the 83 Rabbit GTI that i had a few years back sounded kickin with the rusty muffler! hehe. Cheaper than a "performance muffler" Sounded even better when the hood flew off one morning on the way home from work. that morning the ride home had a severe "spincter factor" rating. There is a lesson here...just becuase you need a car really bad is no excuse to buy a beat up Rabbit for $300. Engine was good though....
