I had my car towed back to my house ~50 miles because I refused to let a shop charge me so much for a task that's so easy.
I've never done any repairs on my car before, and this I could do.
Look at it this way, if you can't drive the car now, what does it hurt to try? If you get into it and can't do it, you'll have to get it taken to the shop anyway. (maybe they could cut down the labor if you're halfway done! :p )
Make sure you read the directions, have the tools and take your time. That's all you need.
