I am trying to replace my temperature gauge SENDER on my Zetec. Its just very hard to get to! Its on the bottom of the thermostat housing and I'd be damned if I know of a way to get it off.... the Haynes manual isn't being very helpful.

Has anyone done this before and can give me some hints????

Thank you!

I'm not familiar with Zetec but I didn't think it was under thermstat housing, are you sure you've got the correct sensor? What color are the 2 wires going to it? Year of car?
Usually after removing electrical connector you just use a wrench on the hex part of sensor. V6 has 2 sensors, one for guage, one for PCM. Zetec I believe has only one that serves both purposes.

My '97 Zetec has two too. All you need is a very large metric wrench (19 ? 22 ? don't remember) or a good adjustable one. Careful on the limestone (is it called that?) deposits on the threads and try not to break the sensor like I did.

FYI, both Autozone and the $tealer sold me the OTHER
one when my gauge sensor went south. Either my car is very special or there's a part # messup somewhere.
The gauge sensor is the one facing downwards, IIRC, anyway easy to figure out.
