Tell them that you and your lawyer (or at least someone from the BBB; you may want to contact both) would like to see the toolbox and rack in question, along with pictures and dealer documentation on the damage (they should at least have a write-up). Please also tell me that you took your mileage down before leaving it in their hands. That right there is going to tell volumes on what they were doing with the car...

I've been around MTX's all my life and have yet to have a single one magically start itself, turn over and "jump" into gear. I'll bet a blank check that these pricks took your car for a spin or were just plain negligent and smacked it into something.

Go in cool, but let them know that if they want to persist with the BS, you'd love to entertain their stories in the middle of litigation.

I'd also ask them to coherently explain how in the hell Ford expects a customer to drive out with a car that is magically jumping into gear at any given time...

I'd be asking for a new car.
