Good advice Alex_96gl. I would have to agree...it's not a mystery when something BIG like that happens...check the oil for shavings or massive amounts of chunky black bits..if nothing continue...did the engine squeal before dying? did it chug chug chug to a hault? or just stop? Just stop sounds like electrical to me.

ZetechRacing, that made me giggle. Hey, a V6 cost a lot more than your 4cyl man 96. I have a SVT. I can tell you factually that had I bought a German car at the same $ it would still be under warranty and wouldn't have stupid problems. And that would preclude 'b'tchn about it on other boards' as there would be very little to complain about. Had you spent a bit more money for your car, you might appreciate it. Your car new was prob in the low teens, a v6 was more, mine was 23k. I have lost a lot more in resale and still have stupid problems even Toyotas don't have. Don't piss on a guy for complaining....and a German made car is not bad considering. Get real.

98 CSVT, basic mod's, my slowest car yet but still faster than the wife's Talon Tsi AWD. Not by much, though. Now if I could get the back wheels to do something....

Jaxter,
If you have such a problem maybe you are defective! I am all for freedom of speech but you are going a bit too far. You don't care for Ford anymore. Point taken! This is a site dedicated to Ford Vehicles. Go away if you don't have conversation which may help or questions regarding your Ford specificly. I guess you're really impressed with yourself and you feel people want to hear your negativity. Unfortunatly you have come to the wrong place and you should write a letter if you can't get over it! I'm sure Ford would love to hear from a guy like you! I know how I'd deal with you! HEHE

if the engine is seized..which i doubt BTW, then try to turn it over, if it tries to crank and just pops and doesn't move then maybe...watch the serp belt off the crank if it jumpswhile cranking and then locks upmaybe there right but it does'nt sound right. 3 months ago i saved a 1990 corsica 3.1 that was run 3 miles with the drain plug off and it just died...filled it up with oil and teaspoon in each cylinder..after 4 attempts at cranking it turned over and has been fine ever since (probably 6000 miles) and the engine is just as quiet as it was before the incident..the 3.1 is a tough engine, as this has 140000 miles on it but i can't imagine the duratech is that much weaker... the test for the siezed engine sounds unscientific because i'm tired but it should help i think..try it. Bottom line is if it's seized then everything else that cranks the engine over should work..starter etc.. does that make sense...good luck

by the way is it me or is the Zetec a far more dependable engine than the duratech...i'm pretty happy with my 4 cyl...80000 totaly trouble free miles....and for the guy complaing about his car (jaxter or whatever) who cares what your car costs compared to others on here douchbag...does that make you feel special...just remeber theres always someone with more money, a better car, or a better house than you so stay humble, cause in the big picture of the world your a little tiny piss ant that likes to whine alot

1)Don't tailgate so much and rocks kicked up from other cars/trucks won't crack your headlights

2)125,000 miles and I've never replaced a headlight or a foglight (but I don't use the foglights much, seeing as how I'm not trying to be "cool")

7)There's this stuff you can buy at fine autoparts stores everywhere...it comes in a spraycan...it's called "lithium grease"...you might try applying some to the hinges..

7. Door hinges moan. Ford body shop say's it does not look like an fixed up accident car so groan is just plain bad fitting parts.

Generally, the two most obvious causes of engine seizure are lack of oil lubrication (possibly a bad oil pump) or overheating (possibly a bad water pump).
Did the gauges/idiot lights tell you anything?

Heres the big one, at 57k it spins a bearing and slams a piston into the head. The cost to replace whole motor was freaking $5,100!!!!
Ouch. Car is about three years old and it needs a new motor!! (I always take care of my cars by the way so no neglect here). Ford would not do a dam thing for me. This car is literally falling apart as I drive it. I will never buy another Ford again. ****ty warranty period. If a Chrysler, Izuzu or Hyandia, it would still be covered! This car is a pleasure to drive, but would never recommend a Ford to anyone. I'm switching to another company, maybe German. Bye Ford, it was fun..

3. Power sunroof motor broke at 45k
4. Power window broke at 50k
5. CD play died
6. Paint peeled on both sides, out of warranty but I got them to piant it by complaining loud.
7. Door hinges moan. Ford body shop say's it does not look like an fixed up accident car so groan is just plain bad fitting parts.
8. Tranny linkage cable broke around 40k
9. several recalls for dumb stuff
Just all around poor quality. I'm thinking about driving this thing over a cliff and just cutting my losses since keeping it would only throw good $$$ after bad...
Dude, sounds like your in the wrong club!!
