tell them to check like the timing chain or the cams....thats what i think it is..i know if there is something wrong with the timing chain it'll cause the engine to burn oil...if they cant find anything i'll let you know what my mechanics find

I just got back from the mechanics. The pistons are frozen. They tried moving the cable and the engine cannot be cranked. There is no power steering, but the radio works. The oil/anti-freeze is fine. They say over and over it is not electrical. I did have a sensor replaced last month (check engine light.)

The clicking started right before the engine died...

No, not in a right turn. I heard this "clicking" when I pressed on the gas. I was coming to a stop sign, headed straight, when the engine just stopped. I had it towed and the mechanics said it seized and they are looking for a used engine. No oil dripping, no smoke,..it just stopped! I called a Ford dealer who said they have not heard of this!! Any ideas, comments would be greatly appreciated.

The same thing happened to me over a month ago! I have a new engine for which I am going to get rid of the car after the summer.

Good God, there are more POS engines in this forum...mine went at 74k, bearing came right off the rod. This was a nice ticking sound but it kept running. Yours sounds a little strange... And my NEW Ford replacement is a POS as well...details are coming next week after my service appointment. Good luck!

GEE! This really scares me!!!

How was the sound? Is it really loud? Of do you have to be listening underhood to hear it? What are the symptom? I'm curious.

The latest with my engine...there is a possibility that that type of gasoline, generic brand 87 octane may have been the cause of the engine seizing. I spoke with another mechanic who said that if the engine cannot be cranked, it is gone. I am hoping I can get on the Public Radio program "Car Talk" to talk about this. I also called the dealer to see if any recalls could have caused this..they said no.

[QB][/QUOTE] Here is my two cents. First, I have a 95 LX Duratec with 145,000 miles and it runs great. It will pull to 6500 rpm with no problem. I dont make that a habit but sometimes you have to move it. Anyway I am impressed with this motor as I have mostly owned GM's. I might add as tuff as small block Chevy's are they will scatter from abuse, lack of maintainence, and sloppy engine building. In fact the 396 cid was known for weak rod bolts that would send the rods thru the pan or block when redlined. Sorry for the rambling. Have your motor diagnosed. Was it a rod or was it a bearing or whatever. Let us know. You can find used engine at car-part.com. Good luck.
