There's a noise coming from my front driver's side wheel when I get up to around 60 mph. It's pretty loud...sounds like a hum that you would get from some kind of resonance effect. I can feel the hum through the steering wheel. I don't think it's an unbalanced wheel, because at 60mph the wheel shouldn't be spinning fast enough to cause a hum. My Windstar had an unbalanced wheel once that caused a big vibration in the steering wheel at around 70mph, but it was definitely not a hum...it was more like a shaking that was felt rather than heard. Could the hum have something to do with my CV joint? I have a feeling one or both of those are going.

More likely wheel bearing, but rotate the tire to the rear to see if noise follows the tire, or not.

I agree....does the humming change when you steer to the left or the right? This seems to happen when one of the wheel bearings is going...

Hmm...I'll check it out. I think a wheel bearing was going in my previous car (a '98 Mystique) and that sounded more like a rhythmic scratching that happened once per wheel revolution than a hum...but maybe wheel bearing problems come in more than one sound...

Anyways, thanks for the help, guys!

I had a front left bearing go out. It caused a steady hum when I drove straight ahead, and when I steered to one side, but not when I steered in the other direction.

Don't know if this question was for me or for LegacySHO, but mine went at about 90K miles.

Yep, just checked it...makes a hum when I drive straight or steer slightly left, but no noise when steering slightly right. I just went on a 600 mile trip, so the noise kinda wore on me...loved those long gradual right turns though. I have about 55K miles on my car.

What size socket do you need to remove the big nut on the hub to change the bearing?
