The main vacuum line comes from the engine. It may not be directly from the engine, though. It might be connected to the vacuum system near the brake booster. You will have to find it at the back of the climate controls and follow it to the other end.

I'm an apprentice technician at a local Ford dealer, and I am working full time right now while I am waiting to graduate from a local college's Ford training program.

If you can raise the car the vaccum line is underneath at the bottom of the firewall (towards the rear (of the firewall a few inches) center & just behind sway bar look up) and close to the heater hoses. This where the heater core connections are. I have a 98 2.5 I'll have to look for the reservoir myself, it's so cramped under the hood who knows where it maybe hiding.
Paul
I check and let you know.
OK after one mini-floor jack and two jack stands the black plastic line plugs into a rubber connection, the plastic line is now gray and on my V-6 appears on top in the area of the idle air valve and the electric vaccum switch for the Egr. There are multiple tees so one goes to the Egr switch, another to the fuel pressure regulator and the other goes to the canister purge switch (I didn't trace that). So it's possible to have other troubles weird troubles if the HVAC controls are not working. Evidentlly defost must be a deflaut with no vaccum. I have to try that, Ah I couldn't wait. I disconnected the line (gray only) Yes after 12 or 15 mode changes ( must be a reservoir in the dash area) DEF is the deflaut. I imagine the 2.0l in similiar?
Well at least I know, hopefully it won't fail????Hi Hi

Hey Paul,
Actually I have not found anything out yet because the Tour is in the body shop right now. Its pretty sad. This guy plowed into the pasenger side front quarter. So the tie rods and stuts and rim are also shot. It was actually my fault so I should not make it sound like it was his fault. The funny part about it is he took off. It was a hit and run. The guy took off and it was my fault. So anyway I dont know anything I am hoping to take it in as soon as I get it back. Then I will let everyone know what it was. Take care!

I have decided my problem with change of airflow direction
So in all settings of switch the airflow comes in cabin through the defroster because there is no vacuum in the black vacuum line (pipe) witch is comes from the engine.
"F111D" wrote about it very explicitly but "too late" smile I found a reason
"F111D"! You are quite right! The black line is become gray near the engine. Why it is plastic?????... It should be metal or rubber!!!
I have found an opening. The gray pipe has frayed and consequently the vacuum missed.
I have wound a pipe by an insulation masking tape (I do not know as it is called in English) and that is all!!!
Also I have noted, that the power of an airflow is much less if the filter under the right wiper is very dirty.

Hey Everyone!

Thought I would let everyone know what happened with this problem I was having. Turned out it was a vacum hoses that some how got in touch with the exhaust. So it was only like a 36 dollar charge. Sorry it took so long to get back to everyone on this problem. laugh wink
