Hi,
I've got a 98 SVT and for quiet sometime it's been acting a bit weird. Most of the time it happens when it's humid outside and it increases when the A/C is on. Typically what happens is that when I start it up, the engine goes to 2000 RPM for a 1s or 2 when goes down in idling mode ... When it does that I know it's going to do the following : - when I change gear (up or down) the engine will slightly accelerate on its own which is pretty painful when down shifting.
I brought the car several times to my Ford dealer and they couldn't find anything wrong at that time.
Does anybody have exprecienced that ?
Thanks

I used to have that same problem with I had my SCA CAI installed. I had to reposition my MAF and let my computer reset. It finally went away. I got rid of the SCA CAI because it sucked anyways. That may not be your problem, but just thought I would mention that.

the SCA CAI is "south county autosports cold air intake"
MAF sensor is "mass air flow sensor"

I have a 98.5 SVT that did the same thing. It will get probably worse, and the engine will start racing in idle. Mine was hitting 4000 rpm. I took it in and the dealer replaced the idle air speed solenoid/sensor (something like that). They said that is a common problem with Fords from 96-99. My friend has 97 SHO, and he has had the same problems.
Have your dealer check that part out. It costs about $170 if your warranty has expired.

I have exactly the same thing but after the 1 or 2 seconds you mentioned it goes down to idle. I thought it was normal because it was sort of like the electronic choke or something... I think it must be terrible if it goes up to 4K on its own so IŽll let it alone for a while but if it keeps revving higher Ill change the air sensor you mentioned.

Certainly the higher revs, around 2000, are normal immediately after starting, but they should drop back to 750 within a few seconds. (the cooler the engine, the longer it'll take to fall back to idle speed)
The revving up to 4000 on its onw is definitely not normal....sounds like Chris99SVT may have the solution.

Yes, yes, yes!
Everyone on the forum thinks it's "throttle hang", but it's not. This is a *problem*, not an annoyance.
My 1999 SVT has done it intermittently every summer. Everything's fine until--some hot and humid day--I do a lot of driving with the AC on, and WHAM!--major throttle problems! (Not only don't the RPMs drop when I put in the clutch, they sometimes increase. This is very annoying and dangerous. Funny though, once I come to a stop, the RPMs drop down to idle.)
I've had my car in a half-dozen times. They have replaced the idle control unit twice, reset the computer, etc. Each time they think they have fixed it because the problem isn't there when they test it. Of course, they test it when the car is relatively cold, not when it's hot (which is when the problem occurs).
Any ideas????

Any ideas???? Get the dealer to change the IAC valve. // Chris Root // '99 SVT
