There is a filter, it is accessable only by some amount of tranny disassembly. I bought and and returned a filter kit a few years ago that had a large plastic filter with some sort of felt-type element. i gave up on removing the side
pan since it was too difficult.
Look into the Magnefine, which splices into the cooling line.
