yesterday my contour failed its emission test. so, i took it to my buddys dad who checked the code, it was the O2 sensor, of course. it was 011, is that the one on the passenger side top? if so, can i change it? whats the best 02 replacement? another question: my car also failed because the check engine light would not come on...my buddys dad (who by the way is a mechanic for ford) said used car shops like to remove the CEL so it is not staring at you while your test driving the car. any one know an easy way to get to this bulb???

The bulb is a standard instrument cluster bulb, which you should be able to get at a dealer or auto parts store. The CEL should turn on briefly when you first start the car and then go out. If you don't see it light when you crank the starter, it's probably burnt out or missing. Code 011 is not a sensor code, it's actually sort of a 'hello, computer alive' code. The actual diag codes should follow this code. When you get the real code # you can look it up here or post it and a CEG'r should be able to help you out. Good Luck!

Bank 1 is closest to driver/firewall and hardest to get to. If you remove the coil pack and sit on top of the manifold you can get a sensor socket and breaker bar down there to break it loose. It's hard to reach, but very do-able if your patient. Your codes indicate it is the upper sensor.
