I just popped in a rebuilt ATX in my car after I bought it (needed a trans but great looking car), I got it cheap but I won't say how much, but a good deal.

So, is there any tips from anyone with an ATX or MTX transmission with any info on extending it's life, when to do things like maintenance etc.

I do not know much if not anything about transmissions, so any advice is helpful, thanks.

Thanks

Installing an transmission cooler (small radiator) can help extend the ATX life... check my post about the ATX cooler hose connections and check the pics... it isn't hard to install once you get it mounted...just need to connect it to the current transmission cooling return line from the bottom of the radiator. I got my cooler from Napa, it is their medium-duty cooler model number ATP.1-4822... to install it required two 5/16" hose couplings and two additional hose clamps, a screwdriver and a pocket knife... all else needed was included in the ATX cooler kit.
Also it is reccommended to flush the transmission system from time to time if it doesn't have too many miles on the original fluid... don't ask me how many miles as I am still learning this stuff myself.
My car has 45,000 miles and a slow tranny oil leak from the front seal so I am planning on taking it in for a transmission flush very soon and will have the torque checked on the bolts and have them slightly tightened to try to stop the leak... fingers crossed. The leak definately gets worse on hot days when I drive a long way, especially when using air conditioning... so I think the cooler will help slow the leak, or so I hope.

Change the fluid one/year, and use synthhetic (Mercon compatible) fluid. PranQster has the full scoop on the ATX coolers.
