Yes this is a common annoyance.
Here is a tip:
When inserting the nozzle, be sure not to insert with full force and don't press it up against the gas tank. I always thought it was a good idea to press it up to create a "seal" with the rubber surround of the nozzle...instead just insert it like 4/5 of the way inside...pretty much all the way but not completely... (make sure it IS inside tho!
) and its should be MUCH easier to fill your tank up.
