It will also help the air flow around your air filter depending on your filter set up

Well said Mr. Haines. I couldn't agree more.

Would the battery fit where the spare tire is?

I thought weight off the wheels that are creating the rotating inertia would increase perfromance, figured that's why people were buying CF hoods beyond the fact it would enhance the handling, braking, etc. . .I could be wrong. . .just makes sense that less weight on the front is as beneficial on acceleration as lowering the unsprung weight on the wheels that drive the car (FWD in our case). . .i'm obviously open to corrections, as I came to this conclusion myself from reading, not from practical application on our cars. . .

Less weight is good. Less weight=Faster Acceleration.
Moving weight from front to rear wont increase acceleration, but will affect handling, good or bad.
The Battery is sprung weight. Unsprung weight is wheels, tires, brakes, knuckles, bearings, about half of the drive shaft, bottom half of struts. The parts that turn (wheels, tires, brakes in particular also rotate, reducing rotating mass helps.
Battery is not unsprung and doesn't rotate. Moving it to the rear will affect handling (good or bad depends on how you prefer the car to handle). Since the Battery cable is a pound or two heavier, the mass of the car is greater and will so the car down (a little, a very little).

People relocate batteries to help balance the car beter. It also has the benefit of clearing up more space as in this case. I would use a gel(?) cel battery like an Optima. they are sealed and can not leak. Optima says they can be mounted in any position, even upside-down. Their website is www.optimabatteries.com. Check it out. This is the ideal battery to mount in the trunk. I really want to do this when the money tree in the back yard blooms again. It takes forever though. Roger

My point is the stock battery moved to the rear doesn't give the car a faster 1/4 mile.
It changes the handling (Depending on skills, this can be a positive or negative)
It does not make the car lighter, but slightly heavier.
Now if you put a lighter battery in, you will accel quicker (whether the battery is in front or rear).
If moving the battery allows the install of a better intake, you may be faster.
If it makes your stereo amps work better (Heavy speakers and amps slow you down anyway), fine.
If you like to mod your car because you like to mod your car, this is o.k. too.
But moving the stock battery to the rear does not make the car faster.

Okay dude I think we get the point! Removing the battery alone will not add HP or improve 1/4 mile times. It's hillarious though how you think that a longer heavier wire set will make a big enough wieght difference to even matter cause it won't in my OPINION. I am removing mine to the trunk to allow for a 2 filter intake that will allow for quicker throttle responce and Oh Yeh, dual ram air! The definately will make a difference in my OPINION>
