is there a way u can tell if you have tcs or a bad clutch. A few times i launched and heard the rpms raise but the car wasn't accelerating as hard as it usually did. I thought it was my clutch but then saw this post.

I recently tried thought this and did it myself. I put in the switch and nada, nothing happened. No TCS in mine.

My 97 Mondeo ST24 has TCS and it is on by default whenever the car is started. When I press the button on the dash the light on the button and the light on the instrument cluster come on permanently and this indicates that the system is disabled. So I would guess that most SVT's will have TCS as standard, which can be disabled if a switch is fitted..

Is there an easy way to tell if your car has TC and if it is actually being used?

SVT's DO NOT HAVE TRACTION CONTROL!!!
IT WAS NEVER AN OPTION!!!
There has been one instance to date were an SVT had TCS installed from the factory. In order to defeat the TCS a switch had to be installed. The switch DID NOT magically make the TCS work it ALWAYS worked to begin with. (I.E. you can never spin the tires because it "automatically" kicks in)
BTW - comparing a regular Mondeo ST24/Contour SE to an SVT/ST200 makes no sense... It WAS an option on the standard models.

Maybe I worded things wrong then. What I meant was it may be possible that SVT's with the wiring for the switch could have traction control.
As my post stated, the traction control is disabled using the switch or as you put it "defeated".

ALL ST24's have TCS fitted as STANDARD. It was never an option. Maybe you are confusing the ST with the lesser V6 Mondeos (which I beleive also had TCS as standard) .

I have TCS, and the switch was installed, it seems to be very very rare.

You were comparing the ST24 (our SE - which you will note I specifically stated in my first post!) to an ST200 (our SVT)
They are not the same. That's my point and why I stated you should not compare them as being the same!
BTW - ANY Contour/Mondeo that is NOT an SVT/ST200 IS a standard model.
I never said BASE model now did I.
I will state that I did not know the ST24 had TCS standard so I was going by "our" equivalent when I said it "was" an option. The "entire point" of that statement was it was NEVER an option on the SVT.
Also the fact that adding the switch DOES NOT make it have TCS. Adding the switch would only let you disable the TCS if it was installed. It would be plain as day if someone had TCS. If not then they should not be driving in the first place. 'nuff said!
