If you're getting CELs with codes indicating O2 sensor problems, JCWhitney has platinum tip O2 sensors for $53 each. (#13ZX2749N) With 94K miles and intermittent 172 & 176 codes for the last 9 months, I decided it was time for replacement. Thanks to all the great info available on CEG, the job was pretty painless and took about 2 hours. You need to splice the Ford connector onto the new sensors using a supplied splice kit. The Ford connector has 4 wires and the sensor 3 wires. Leave the gray connector wire tucked into the harness or cut it off. The sensor uses a chassis ground and does not need the 4th wire. (Splice white-white and black-black)
My CELs are completely gone! I could not get a blink out the CEL after 35 miles of heavy foot-in-the-carpet driving. Engine is slightly smoother, but no noticable performance increase.
