Hi, newbie here. Need help. My dashboard is warping and forcing out the grate for the front windshield blower. I have a 99 SE contour. I remember getting a letter from Ford about this, but now can't find it. Has anyone else had this happen; if so, what did you do? Did anyone else get this notice? I got it within the last 6 months, but can't remember the exact time. Any help that can be offered, is most appreciated!!!

The recall expired on Aug 31 2002 you may want to see if your local dealership can still do it because it seems like different people are getting different answers about it and I think somebody has even said that the recall maybe will open again with a different fix since this fix does not always fix it for that long. you may also want to check out this thread by LegacySHO about fixing it on your own until you can find out about what ford is doing about this.
I fixed my own warped dash!

Just had my 99 Contour dash replaced in Aug 2002 and now is gone again. Can not be bothered to go back as they tie up the car for days and screw it up

Letter said it expired Aug 31

so then, what is the general consensus? attempt a fix with the dealer, or go out and get industrial strength tape?? my dash isn't that bad..maybe 1/2" to an inch up in the center, but the plastic grate thingy is popping out. has ford given any indication of trying another fix? sorry to be asking so many q's.

After mine was replaced in Aug 2002 vent popped out again [Mid Sept]and dash raised 1". I will not go back to dealer
It took a week and looked poor as part was raised ~1 inch


My opinion is get Silicones[black] and apply and weight down overnight. Apply painters Tape around edges to avoid getting on visible vinyl

That stuff fixes everything and can be removed if required
from plastic.Only bad feature is drying time is not quick

I just finished Silicone [ing] my pop up Dash back down

I lifited the Black vent out of the way[just one side]
I used the tips of my fingers [glove on] with Silicone on tips [clear -best GE] and ran on shelf below dash [1" cavity]all around perimiter.4-5 applications

I cleaned up

Pushed black vent back in place [added small daps on black flange]

Then I took books and slid over top as dash pushed down between windshield [like a wedge being pushed in]
I added second layer of books to push down more[encyclopedias] The books are spread 3 wide by two deep[6 books]
Dash went FLAT!!!!!!!!!!!!
NOW Wait til tomorrow ??????????
{My wife says she saw the windshild lifting out -just kidding]
