That shipping price is the flat rate fee. IF you want to pay COD for the shipping, it will possibly be cheaper. The hoods have to be shipped via freight due to the size of the hood + packaging. Normally for most companies, shipping is determined like this:
1 pound per cubic foot base rate. 1-2 dollars per pound. So, even if the hood only weighs, say, 20 pounds in the packaging, or even 30, the size of the package will give them a 'base weight' to calculate cost off of, or in this case, roughly 80-90 dollars, that's from one major metro area to another. The mfgr. can get us a better deal on freight due to their high volume of shipments, so they charge a flat rate, whether it's to Nevada from CA, or to NY from CA. Like I said, you have the option of COD for delivery, which will probably be cheaper in most situations. When the group buy gets close to going through, we'll let you guys choose on an individual basis what you want, and find out for you.
For the vent design, the mfgr. company would have to charge us to design it, so it's in our best interest to come up with our own. As for water issues, many cars have vents and don't have such issues.. I don't think it'll be a problem, myself.
