Pete, 120k on the clock now, I got the fluid changed at 90k and am getting it done next (or this) week for the 120k interval. I don't know if it was done by the previous owner. Original ATX (knock on wood)

Draining and flushing yearly should be sufficient. You need to drain and fill at least twice (With a short run in between) to get more of the old fluid out thats stored in the torque converter. Spring flushes will give you fresh fluid for the hot summer months.

ddmd3216,
I would consider what you are doing, rather than a 12 quart flush every 12,000 miles.

I drain and fill mine with every oil change... it's just so convenient with a drain plug that I don't see any reason not to. Also, I hear that our transmission fluid burns up rather quickly, so I think it's good to keep at least SOME new fluid circulating through the system!

oops! just checked mine and it's nearly clear. Getting it changed this weekend. Looking back at my records it seems I missed the interval. I changed it last at 45k and now I'm at 90. Usually I was changing it every 15-20k. Hopefully nothing bad has happened otherwise it's my own damned stupidity. Can't see how I missed that.

A drain/fill/drain/fill type of flush is harmless and wont hurt your seals or cause any premature failures. Yearly changes should keep your fluid in very good condition with 30K being the max safe mileage. Some of the 'power flushes' have been reported here and on other boards to result in failures within a few weeks. I dunno if it messes up seals or whatever, but just a word of warning for what it's worth. As mentioned previously, if the CEL was flashing, the code can be read because the computer saves a copy of the error codes for a long time.
