Someone told me there were no resets that have to be done after the airbags are replaced. I was wondering if anyone has ever replaced the aibags in a 2000 contour. I just don't want to hook the power back up and have them deploy again......

Thanks for your help...
Nick

Why did the old ones deploy?
If they did deploy there is probably alot more to replace than just the airbags.I used to work on Volvos and Mercedes and when we replaced airbags on these cars everytime we had to replace the contact ring(in steering wheel, sends power to airbag)all the wiring going to both deployed airbags and the SRS module.Usually the wiring would melt at the airbags and the module was a one time use item.
If you were in an accident the seat belt tensioners will have to be replaced to,because they would have deployed too.
Oh And just FYI,DO NOT USE A MULIMETER ON THE AIRBAG CONTACTS!!!The small amount of current going through the multimeter laeds CAN set off the air bag!ANd if its setting in your lap...well you wount need to worry about having kids.
Fun side note, when Mercedes customers came in with a faulty airbag(undeployed)and after Mercedes North Anerica told us to replace it under warranty,we could not send the bad air bag back to them like we would any other part(explosives through UPS).They had this "special tool" which was just a small box with a battery (one AA) and switch, with a 50 foot cord and airbag connector attached to it.We had to take the airbag out back and hook it up to this special tool and deploy it!Talk about fun!
They warned us not to deploy them facing down because they would fly way up in the air,so of course we had to do it that way...everytime.They usually went up about 25 feet.We had to let the deployed bag set for a while because it was to hot to touch!
Just to be safe you should remember to always unhook your battery before working on these things,I never did...but I was on the clock. :p

I did them in my 97 and all i did was put them back in because there are other sensors that need to be replaced. so i pulled the bulb i n the guage cluster and the computer for them that is in center console under the radio .Dont plug them in if you were in a accident and didn't replace the sensors in the front of the car or they will blow again. thats all iknow on mine and i dont know if their the same. hope that helps
