Yup they do have an oil filter for the Zetec....think you are rite...the 2004....cross refs are on back and someone, somewhere has a book in their store that broke it all down.
I use the Castrol Syntec and YES, I did notice a performance gain from it. It was expensive but a good idea.
To remove it, turn the wheel to the left a bit. Then use a band filter removal tool. Just needs a few grunts and then remove it with your hands.
Richard's tips for the day: Take a clean finger and lubricate the rubber ring on the filter with the new oil you are about to put in the car. To avoid damage caused by "dry starts", put a small amount of clean oil into the filter before you reinstall it.
And be careful of 10minute oil change places. They can say one thing and do the other...and have you tried removing a drain plug they put in?? Once had a car that I knew went to a 10 min oil change place, had to use torque wrench, then vice grips to remove a drain plug that those FREAKS had installed with an impact wrench and stripped the threads...don't trust em!

i have noticed good things from running mobil 1... i just wanna know if the K&N oil filter is worth it. i didn't have to turn my wheel to get oil filter off. it was just really tight and had to get the metal band filter wrench.

I was the one who showed that the filter number for the contour is cross referenced on the box and in the K&N filter book. I broke 2 oil filter wrenches before I said f**K it and stuck a flat blade screwdriver into the filter to get the original one off. is it worth it I think so do I see peformance gains NO it's a frickin' oil filter. does my oil stay clean for the most part yes.

I looked in the K&N oil filter book today and it didn't reference Focus or ZX2 at all... did I just have an old one?
