The 225/50/16 size should make them a little taller and wider than the stock 215s. It may or may not be a noticable difference, and I also think it varies some by the particular tire?

I'm still running the stock 215s KDWs as well and they are nearing the end of their (noisy) life. I'd also like to know what options we have with a 225/50/16 size on the stock wheels without screwing up the speedo, rubbing, etc.

There are plenty of people around here who have 225/50's on stock wheels without problems, the tire details should specify the rim width that they will fit on if your really concerned. As for the speedometer, the difference will be neglegable. See here: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
