I think he was kidding about the engine glowing orange...I'd think it would seize before that happned.

I seriously doubt that any discoloration will occur...on either side of the hood. If that were the case, you'd see all these low buck cars driving around with dark spots in the middle of their hood! Any discoloration on the underside, might be dirt that would normally accumulate on the liner that would go unnoticed because it's black to begin with.
