Exactly, it shouldn't glow. I'm guessing it's probably glowing more towards the exhaust manifolds. Take a look and it means your cats are bad but you should see/notice a difference in performance too.
On another note, my 98 Mystique didn't come with a hood liner. 92K miles and underneath and on the outside/top are as good as new. No damage or a hint.
