I know the using the O/D accounts for better gas mileage, but what about power? I've got a 98 2.5 dura w the button on the atx shifter...do you use it or not?

On the highway, yes. The engine revs lower. In town, you can use it or not. I rarely use the button. Leaving O/D on works just fine for me. You wont accelerate any faster with it on or off.

ive read some where if u have it off it changes the tranny's shift points better for acceleration in some cases. if this is tru i dunno. but it does make a difference i turn it off to have the car down shift faster on the highway.
but say i want to accelerate quicky i just pop it in first then 2nd at about 5500 rpm. let off the gas a little bit when shifting and then punch it. and the car flies forward. and eventually shift into D. third gear. and to go in forth i just press the od button.
ive noticed a difference when shifting from 2nd to D. if od is on the car ties to go into 4th. and then it floowed by a thud. which isnt good. so best leave to od off when doing that.

y would it cause problems, its just like having the car shift by it self im just controling it. just have to be careful of the thud that happens when od is on. and shifting from 2nd to D.

Driving around with the OD OFF will cause the transmission to heat up quicker and possibly overheat at higher speeds. Our ATX is made to work with a locking Torque Converter. Keeping the Torque Converter Clutch disabled, will cause additional friction within the Torque Converter, that the transmission isn't desgined to work with. This will cause added heat, and as it is, our ATXs aren't designed to remove that heat effectively.
For short periods, it is okay, but not for lengthy drives.

If you wanted that much control over your gears, why didnt you get a 5 Speed. All that playing around with an ATX isnt good.
