I'd be taking someone to court if they said it was due to being over reved. It has a rev limiter for a reason. Yea like you were cruising down the e-way with the tach buried. If they didn't total it I'd be very pissed.

well, if you shift into the wrong gear at 80mph there ain't a darn thing your rev limiter can do about it.

oh, and I'm not saying that Ryan did that.

If they don't total it I'm going to raise hell, yeah. I know the rev limiter is there, and shifting into the wrong gear could blow up my car. However, I accelerated in 4th gear up to just short of 80mph and then shifted into 5th. If I would have went into 3rd, 3rd gear hits the rev limiter at 84mph which would have left me 5 - 10 mph to work with. I know thats not healthy to throw your car into 3rd doing 80, but what I'm saying is the engine wouldn't have blown right away. I'm positive I shifted into 5th. The RPM's never made it above 3500 once I shifted back into 5th. Anyhow...enough about that. I went to the dealership and my car was still on the lift. First thing I noticed, was the dumb bastards had the car up on the lift and were crushing the panels on both sides of the cars. Oh how bad did I just want to bitch smack the guy who put my car up. So I pointed that out, and made sure he added those onto the list of parts that were wrecked they were sending to AAA. So I go and look at the oil pan. Yeah, there are holes on both sides of the oil pan. The gasket for the pan itself on both sides is blown out, as if it were just that....blown out as opposed to inward from a stone or something. However, most of the broken pieces of the oil pan were sitting at the bottom. I reached into the oil pan and pulled out a fist full of metal chunks that would piece together. So I pointed that out. I asked what he felt the reason was for my engine blowing, to which he responded, "the engine was being rev'ed too high". So I asked what he considered "too high". I ended up pointing out that Ford installed a rev limiter on these cars so things like this doesn't happen because it was "rev'ed too high". I spoke to the other guy again, Jeff. He said right now the only thing they do is send a report to AAA saying what is broke, what needs fixing and how much its going to cost. The price is still around the $9,000 - $10,000 area but is going to go higher than that. If they don't total my car I plan on going over there when the AAA guy is there and pointing out every last thing that was burnt or somehow damaged by the fire. Sorry this is so long....I'm a little upset with all the BS they gave me this morning.

The rev-limiter is a little irrelevant. You posted that the revs never made it above 3500 so why mention it. Despite the rev limiter, they can still suspect that you shifted into 2nd instead of 4th to accelerate, driving the engine way over the rev limiter.

The limiter only limits fuel to the engine, causing it not to drive itself to the destruction, but the tranny is a second device that can drive it to destruction and the only protection against that is careful shifting.

Hope this investigatoin is over and done with soon. I'm sure it's pretty stressful - Good luck!

Cheers,

Harry
