This is just what I was told, so if anyone can make sense of it feel free to inform me. My engine is blown. That is what started the fire. The car needs a whole new paint job. And I quote, "the engine was blown from being rev'ed too high which sent the rod through the front and the back". 3 guys looked at my car and thats what they have agreed on so far. They are still asking questions about if I had problems with over heating or anything else that could have caused the engine to blow. There has to have been something though. I was doing 80mph in 5th gear, which is a little over 3K RPM's. They aren't going to send their report to AAA until Monday, at which time they will decide if I'm responsible for everything but the paint work, or if the car is totalled. Right now, the repair bill is in the $9,000 - $10,000 range....

wow that sounds odd...
How does that explain how the hole in the oil pan got there? The rod went through that? WTF?

I talked to my Mom again about it. She told me the wrong thing the first time. Jeff, the Ford mech., said the piston is what busted through the oil pan. I didn't even know that was possible....? He said with the way the repair bill is at they're probably going to total it, but I don't think he realizes as of right now I'd be paying for everything but the paint workk, which would mean they wouldn't. I'm going in on Monday to talk to him in person and look it over with him before he sends the report into AAA. I hope I can convince him it wasn't due to high RPM's or anything that'd cause them not to total it. I didn't do anything, dammit..

Uh... I really hope for you too man. I couldn't imagine if they totalled it, and left you with nothing...

thats horsesh*t. If I were you, I would hire your own mechanic to come and take a look at the car just in case this guy try's to pull some sh*t. with the way the economy is right now and the amount of people pulling insurance scams in the detroit area, insurance companies are paying extra close detail in cases like these and if they can find a reason not to pay a settlement, they will do so. make sure you don't let yourself get jerked.

I'm watching as closely as I can. Like I said, I'm going in myself on Monday to take a better look at my car. I couldn't really touch anything when I went on Thursday because it hadn't even moved from their lot in the back, so I didn't want to be acused of tampering with anything or some BS like that. When I go Monday I'll be able to inspect the front hole in the oil pan better to see if it looks like something came in or went out.

Sorry to hear about your car Ryan but if its totaled what are you going to get next? Your choices are almost limitless, the new MazdaSpeed MP3, FSVT, WRX, EVO VIII, RSX, etc. Good luck with whatever do

Yeah I wish the SRT was already here. I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much that they total it. If they do, it's still up in the air about what car I'd get. I saw an FSVT the other day that I was impressed with (black and lowered). I've always liked the WRX too. But we'll see. I'm trying not to think about it this weekend and just wait until Monday when I know more.
