My 96 has the fiberboard or whatever it is under all of the trunk carpeting except of course for the flexible parts on the sides,,, though ford may have discontented some of this material in later years.

Here's a picture story for everyone who needs it (like me) This is the rear of the trunk, behind the wheelwell. I pinpointed this as the leak spot because of the water focused there (isnt that strange? ). This discovery was made after I locked my girlfriend in the trunk and poured water on it Remove the grey carpet covering or whatever, and you see the vents talked about throughout this post. Here's the vent close-up. See the water traces under it? It was loose, but the other side wasnt and there was no sign of damage. This is why it leaks. This was supposed to be around the vent on the outside of the trunk under the bumper, but it was loose, so i just pulled it off because i am not crafty enough to glue it back. so0o00o Originally posted by seven777svt: BTW use common sense to repair/replace/fix these, very simple. Common sense would tell me to use silicone on the inside of the trunk around the vent, to permanently seal it. Anyone agree, or does anyone suggest anything else? I want to use some brownbread in my trunk (or something like it, even a spray can), but not until this is fixed. It made my current dual 15" box soggy, and the condensation was running off onto my amp. Good thing the terminals are covered on the bottom of the amp.
Thanks to everyone on this board for their help on my annoying problem

I believe I used silicone to seal around mine. Worked great. The foam around my passenger side vent crumbled so I had little choice.

Just in case some else has a leak, my leak war from a loose factory spoiler. The nuts that hold it down are under the rubber bumpers. I drilled out the rivets, tightened the nut, put some crazy glue on the nut so it won't work loose. No more leaks. If you have a spoiler, check those mounting bolts.

after all of that silicone..... its the friggin tail-light. when you open the trunk, at the top of the tail light there is a small gap (on each light). water goes in, and most drips down to the concrete, but some runs to the vents and through, and some through the seals inside of the trunk from poor manufacturing. Could I put silicone in these holes above the tail light? if you guys need pics, i can provide

My leak was around the taillight. I took the light off, cleaned off the mud that had acumulated around the foam gasket and siliconed it back into place. It's been fine since. The vents have never been a problem (so far).

Hi guys, my leak seems to be coming from the rear license plate holder assy. When I open the trunk, water runs out of the driver's side back-up light socket. Any ideas?
Thanks, Dave

I had the same problem - intermittent leak inside the trunk. The rubber gasket around the taillight had rotted away. I just got a cheap generic rubber gasket at autozone and replaced the rotted one with it.
I don't remember exactly what I did to remove it, but there are some nuts on long screws that hold the taillight on. I do remember it wasn't very difficult to remove.

I know those screws.... can you imagine I had my amp grounded to those screws? HA! So you all are saying that dirt buildup around the inside of the tail light would cause water to run down the side into the vent eh? I'll take the light off and let everyone know how this works out...
