Well I have changed both front wheel bearings (more than once under warranty in last 2 months and they turn very smoothly with strut out of car)and the half shafts (all CV joints. Shop where I had bearings replaced ar adamnant it is not wheel bearing and I would have to agree with them.
The drumming/whining noise from the front driveline (98 Tour, V6 Auto) continues with most noise around 60 KPH. Noise is very cyclic wheel bearing type noise. Thought it was originally in the differential (and it may still be). Turn-ins to left (driver's side) reduce the drumming/whine while to the right increase (could it be engine tranny mount allowing engine tranny to touch sub frame?)
Noise seems to be coming from passenger side so it could be the intermediate shaft bearing as it is a relatively constant whine which increases in level with speed in general. Haynes reports that constant driveline noise is likley to be the intermediate shaft bearing.
However Ford is not willing to sell me just bearing. Since it is a pressed-on bearing and they want to sell me the shaft as well for a total of 210 CDN. Does anyone have an idea what the bearing spec is and where else it is available.
