My climate control fan switch seems to be broke. Of the 4 positions, only position 4 works (full blast). It's like this for everything: AC, Heat, Defrost. In positions 1-3, there's nothing, not even a fart's worth of air coming through the vents.

Has anyone had this problem with the fan control?

Or does anyone know if it's just the fan switch?

HOW EXPENSIVE IS THIS? I just paid $180 to have my parking brake fixed...

There have been recalls/extended warranty on fan (blower) switch and blower motor resistors. Best to check with dealer to see if your car is covered. Hi-speed gives +12 directly to motor, bypassing the resistors, which might explain your symptoms.

most likely it is covered under warranty....but if not, the switch is about 5-10 bucks iirc.

(edit) - meant to say recall not warranty- (edit)

I had a similar problem a few months back. I would only get air from the defrosters no matter the setting. In remembered reading somewhere that vacuum losses can cause such a problem. After a few hours of searching I found a vacume leak in a hose running down the firewall. The tube had been resting on the manifold and burned a pin hole in it. Once I replace the section of tube (about $1.50) my switch has been working correctly ever since.
