Try using one of those windshield visors, one of them with the silver color on both sides and air trapped in the middle. Most all car parts places have them as do discount department stores. You can hear the air expanding inside when you put them up on hot days (I use them all the time, year round, unless I park in a good shady spot) and they really do make a difference in the temperature on the dash and the steering wheel.
