I've been searching through this site today looking for what to do to my contour and I've got it narrowed down to exhaust or a chip. It seems exhaust is the best option. Is this right? A chips benefit is only in shifting and it forces you to use high octane gas? And which exhaust package has the most bang for the buck? Would it be a yodude or just an svt system without res's? one more question, is the benefit of gutting the pre-cats worth the trouble? I'd appreciate any help cuz I've got some money comin' soon...and I have to spend it on the contour! (98 se sport w/2.5 dura atx)

i just got my yodude exhuast and my suprchip last week. it seemed that the chip helped more. Can't go wrong with the chip in my opinion ( esp. for us atx's).

chip after exuahst...then the chip can be programmed to take advantage of your mods.

I have a cone filter but thats it...is there a better way? Besides that, thanks for the info, I think I'm gonna do the exhaust first. But still, whattayathink about the exhaust type, yodude or svt? And someone let me know about the pre-cat guttin'.....is it worth it? Thank again!

I agree. I'd also add a few other mods between intake & chip as well...

AFAIK, the chip program does not take into account basic mods such as intake/exhaust. For more in-depth mods, you will need dyno-tuning.

Per Superchips.com :

Most Superchips programs will work great with a free flowing air filter induction system and
a free flowing muffler system.

Just remember breathe in breathe out. If you've done the intake then you need to let the car exhaust the extra air to get the true benifits. There I'd go exhaust myself.

i think someone else already brought this up. but, i would get all the mods you plan on using first, THEN go for the chip. reason being, to get the most from your chip, you should have it custom burned to your car. when its burned you should already have your mods done. if you add mods after the chip, you may not be getting optimum performance.

as for mods, definatly, the first thing to look into would be an intake and exhaust. *cough* i hear yodude performance makes a great exhaust.
but ofcourse the decision on exhausts is up to you.

after those two, its open season usually. plugs, wires, shifter, throttle bodies, etc, etc....then chip

hope this helps
