It's not really a performance upgrade, but more of a recontent thing. Ford probably should have equipped the cars with this thing right off the assembly line. In fact, they DID do just that in Europe with the Mondeo.
Actually it's a newly designed part that was made after the Contour/Mystique was killed off. Like they say; hindsight is 20/20.
It was installed of the new design Mondeo in Europe (01/02)
