It doesnt sound nearly was nice as it did when it was in the cabin.

If i lean it againt the back seat facing the cabin,,,what is being more of a filter,,,the cushion material inside the back of the seat, or the thin cardboard that is on the trunk side of the seat back...If i made a hole thru the cardbord and secured the sub there, would it be any better?
what if in addition, I removed the volume of stuffing the seat has, so at least i get a 10" hole, but I keep most of the seat intact, and no one from the outside would be able to tell...

I assume you can't crack your seat back, like split rear seats that fold down.

If you can, sub frequencies will have no problem going around the seat.

If you can't crack your seat back or if or you are using your sub as a midbass driver (60 Hz to 200 Hz), well you have a bad situation.

Remove the panel in the rear seat an sub frequencies will work but it would be better to fire though the rear deck.

I fire my subs in to the rear seat but they only play 50 Hz and down. All mid bass comes from the front of the car.

This way you get the stage is in front of you Sound desired in competition cars.

I had my board torn out since I put the first sub in the Contour. I don't really have anything to compare it to since it was never put back in... Either way it can't hurt to try it out. It's only held in by a some plastic tabs.

If you remove the seat mat'l stuffing and put a sub there anyone who sits there will squish the cone unless you grill the front over the cone. If you dynomat the trunk an face it away from you it will pound louder I find. I have two 10" xtant pro series subs in a 1/2 MDF ported box. The volume is 4 cubic feet and two 3"x5" deep ports are in between the subs. I hit 146db running with a Kicker dx350 amp consistently. If you dyno mat the trunk and cut holes in each back seat and have subs visble it would be cool but not even close to loudness of a box. It is hard to seal the fold down seats.

I don't think he had any intention of not using an enclosure.

I am going to keep using my Elements enclosure..I dont want any more power or volume, its just the nature of the sound,,, to my ears, it just sounded better when i had the thing in the cabin....I may just cut a 10" and aim the sub thru and try it...I a little tired of the working that blasted trunk..I sunk the supports for the rack thru the plywood for extra support,,,
well, off to eat lunch!
