I did mine in under 4 hrs (air tools and gear wrenches), but would not quote that time to a customer...
The job is a moderate PITA & I ran into zero complications. (stuck bolts/studs/nuts/alternator/etc)
I would say 5-6hrs and ~$300+ in labor. Anyone under that price point is a really good deal...
you wouldn't want to drive up to New England to get this done for me...would ya?

To those of you who have these headers installed, are you happy with the results? Was the exhaust more raspy? Would you reccomend it? How much gain can I expect with my 98.5 SVT with 75mm MAF and Y-pipe? Sorry for all the qu's!!

ha - you thought wrong. the stories definately involve the mechanics. I've tried four mechanics so far until I finally found the right one..he just happens to work at the dealership. luckily, i have a very good relationship with the dealership where i get that one mechanic...all the time. those cars - were very reliable and treated me well....at least until it visited the damn mechanics.

About 100 fold!!! Even with an inline resonator, 2 mufflers, and a high flow cat I still get serious rasp when it's cold and light tinny rasp when it's warm. (WOT only) Adding the highflow main cat helped a ton. Without it I was really embarrased to even drive the car hot or cold. Now it's not too bad when warm...

When I put on the MSDS headers I also replaced the stock resinator with a Thrash Turbo Tube.
After one week it isn't annoying me as much as when I first heard it. It is raspy, tinny and loud but has a great small block back-down note, not a big consolation.
If you want my two cents worth, I have a lot of mods on my car. With the exception of the Quaife TBD nothing has added any noticable (using the gut gage, or seat of the pants if you want to call it that) gains.
I have the 75mm mass air flow sensor and the full open JR air cleaner along with my MSDS. Again, I just don't believe there's any noticable gain, if any at all for the $1,800+ "air in - air out" investment.
My basis for the "gut gage" for those who want to know where I'm coming from or will have a difference of opinion...I owned an 86 Mustang GT 5.0 new, my nephew bought the same car new one year later a 87. Both cars had the same trans and rear ratios. The 87 came with 25 (10%) more HP. 200 vs 225. Long story short - I drove both cars and 25 HP gain on a 200 HP engine is a world of difference. I've noticed no difference by adding the headers and related items to the Duretec.

Since I'm interested in jumping in on the MSDS GB going on, I've been scourging CEG for general opinions on what the MSDS sounds like, and this is what I've concluded:
It's tolerably more raspy with minimally noticeable performance gains, and does more damage to the enivronment at the same time. Some people said it makes the Contour SVT sound a little deeper, but I hear raspy a lot. Isn't that an annoying, embarassing thing?

The headers definetly liven up your exhaust note. With a Borla cat-back it truely is sweet music though. It can have a slight drone under load at a cruising speed (going up a slight incline at 2200rpm in 4th is a good example) There is also a slight rasp, I think it mainly comes from the easier flow of the exhaust gases that creates this noise. Mine has no tinny sound at all. One thing for sure, the motor breathes alot easier, it gets to redline much quicker (I only have exhaust mods on the car, factory airbox with original filter) There are definite HP gains with them, how much I dont know, but I dropped 0.2 off my ET consistantly (4 passes. all 15.54-15.55) in 90 degree, hot humid day on a track known to be slower than other area tracks. The only days I seem to go to the track are the worst days to race on
