I've sat here and read what all was being said. And to be quite honest with you all, I am VERY disapointed all you had posted about how good, and happy this place was here.

But this is just turnong into a flame war of sorts. I beleive it's time that the admins did some thing about this.

It seems to be the general opinion of 90% of males. The ladies all like it though

Honkey is right, the focus is better in almost every respect aside from it being pathetically slow and uglier than rosie o'donnel and rosanne arnold jello wrestling.

Build quality is higher, it doesn't seem prone to rattling, its handling is excellent, road noise is much lower, it has better interior materials.

Too bad it makes the Aztek look nice.

not to knock the focus because i am a fan of both the zx3 and SVT, but I'm not sure I agree about the build quality thing. how many recalls has that car had now?

The 2000 model year has had something like 7, IIRC.

Is the over seas model the same way as far as recalls go?

Quite true, the 2000 model was recalled many times. There were all the problems a new car can have and then some. Fortunately Ford is jumping on problems quickly now before they turn into catastrophes by issuing recalls on even small problems. What Dave an I are referring to is the general construction of the car has been improved, as you would expect from a more modern vehicle. Actually comparing them really isn't even fair since the Contour didn't get a real chance here. The Focus sells well and makes money, so Ford upgraded some of the tools used in the manufacturing process for 2002 to cover complaints about rattles and noise. There are no panels in my car that rattle, despite my audio setup helping to create them. There is also several layers of sound deadening added to further reduce noise. Even the hatchback, which had a huge rattle problem in 2000, has been fixed and no longer makes a sound. The Contour's unfortunately low sales forced Ford to cut corners and decontent. If it had sold well I'm sure it would have improved every year like the Focus has been able to Too bad most people don't realise what the Contour was

No I doubt it, that would not be tolerated over there as cars like the Focus are considered an average sized family car there.
