If I had to remove the firewall side manifold, then I would be all about gutted. I'd buy a set from Brad Noon. However, I am "lucky" enough to only have to replace the radiator side manifold, and you couldn't make me gut them on the motor. Having only one gutted manifold sounds like bad mojo to me, so I'm taking the path of least resistance (and cost) for now. Ford wants $500 for one manifold!
Don't worry - headers (or gutted cats) are in the long term plan, but I just can't justify them right now. I'll be hanging on to the bad manifold for just that. Now if I could just find a yard that doesn't have "head in butt" disease ...
