I was going to Dick's Sporting Goods yesterday at the Wilton Mall in Saratoga, and as I was looking for a parking spot, I saw a familiar-looking back end of a car sticking out of a parking spot - another red SVT! I found a nearby spot, and hopped out to look as I walked toward the mall.
Oh, man - was this car ever in sorry shape! It was a '99 T-red with the prairie tan interior, and it looked awful.
First, someone had attached coffee can-type exhaust tips, which would have looked awful under normal circumstances, but the stainless steel was all dull and corroded - and sooty, too. The car hadn't been washed in ages - the brake dust was so caked into the edges of the rims that they were positively black.
The interior was a mess - I don't think it had ever been cleaned, and the windows had smudge marks all over the inside - it looked like a dog had been smooshing his wet nose all over the inside of the windows.
To top it all off, there was junk all over the inside of the car - McDonald's wrappers, newspapers, etc.
What a mess. Very discouraging to see.

maddening isn't it! My dog is NOT allowed to come in my car...if shes gotta go to the vet I borrow someone elses car. White hair + constantly shedding dog + blue interior = not over my dead body. Unfortunatley I haven't been able to keep my car as clean as I would like to, with these water restrictions and stuff. I fear some people might think the same thing of me. I however would never let it get that out of hand. I wonder what it looks like under the hood??

I say we confiscate the car from him on the grounds of neglect!

I've had my car almost as dirty, but I had a good excuse! The headers didn't quite fit properly and I needed to wait for parts. The car sat under a tree for three weeks, covered in pollen. I was known as the brown/bright green SVT owner for some time! Now, she sleeps in the garage.

Wheels aren't the car!! Alot less water is used, hell, I go to the carwash just to wash the wheels that aren't mounted. Need to have nice clean wheels!

You want irony on water restrictions? My county is in a "Drought Warning", meaning the state is only trying to attain a voluntary 10-15% reduction in water usage. Problem: I live in an apartment with no hose hookup. So, the in-laws live in another county in the same status as mine. Except I can't get in and out of their driveway without killing sideskirts (the one I am finally replacing got Hit #2 there, #3 finally killed it recently). Mom's house has a hose and a driveway spot I can navigate. Oh wait, she's under mandatory water restrictions. I can only go to her house on the 2nd and 4th Sat/Sun of the month. Except I can never seem to get a free day those weekends. And that only gives me 5 minutes of hose time for the total job, which really isn't enough to get it completely rinsed. So, I go to self-wash places to keep the car clean. My tip: Use the pressure hose on the foamy brush before you use it. My hope is that it gets the majority of the dirt off it. I know I hit my wheels with the brush last, thus leaving it covered in brake dust for the next sucker. (I am especially happy when some dumb ricer is next in line. I actually told a guy with a BMW to make sure he did that before I pulled out of the stall so he didn't inherit my brake dust all over his car.) And, my car is curently running arouns sans the passenger skirt; waiting for the new one to come in and get painted. Add all the trash that has built up with 4 serious road trips since the last full clean. Add the perma-bash on my rear bumper (if you've seen it you know what I'm talking about) and the car looks a little abused. Hey, at least Blackstone Labs just gave the parts that count a clean bill of health! Even added a note about "excellent oil filtration" - K&N Performance Gold rulz yo! Now I just need to find a cheap junkyard LH Exhaust Manifold ...
