I changed mine last night and tipped out the contents afterwards, on a sheet of paper towel.

I sh i t you not, mud came out, only after maybe 12,500 miles! eek

Explains some sputtering I was experiencing, although I think my "top quality" OEM fuel pump is slowly on the way out!

But in any case change the bloody thing, it only costs like $5 and take 10 minutes to do. After your done tip out the fuel as to strain it, on a paper towel, and you'll be AMAZED at the crap that makes it's way into you tank.

A couple of questions...

How did you relieve the fuel pressure from the system? Do you have the "special" tool or some other method?

Was the replacement filter a dealer only item?
confused confused

Pull the fuel pump fuse, then crank the car three times.

Fuel Filter available at Autozone.

I did this along with other maintanance before I installed the SHM MAFterburner.

Excellent reminder. It's such an easy to forget, out of sight, out of mind maintenance step. Super easy to replace, too. And made a big difference once I did. If I can do it ....

Might sound like a stupid question but where is the fuel filter located on the Contour?
