Can you machine cross drilled and or vented rotors when it's time to change your pads? I have thought about buying some but I don't want to replace the rotors every time I have to change pads!

I've heard it's possible but they way I've seen them machined no! Either way you would be hard pressed to find a shop that would do it for you! Basically they are throw aways!

Damn, that's really a waste of money of you don't race then. Oh well. After breaking my SVT I'll probably look more into racing my Monte. Thanks for the quick answer!

That is why I suggested the OEM Autospecialties! They are a quality rotor, unlike Bat Econo's, to replace OEM parts. I have slotted and drilled on the front and if they warp, I'm done. I've been lucky so far! A harder compound pad like KVR's on Mintex 1144 will take longer to wear out with street use but also don't brake so well when cold! I run KVR's all around!

It's a waste of money even if you do race according to people who make rotors.

Cross-drilled, etc. are for cosmetics, aesthetics, and looks.

That is so you don't get a false impression of better braking simply from rotors. Some racing teams do use slotted rotors but not most! They also you light weight two piece rotors!

I was referring to the strength reasons but good points.

What do you mean by strength reasons?

You know this but I'll say it anyway. Rotors constantly heat up and cool down, and being metal, that means constant contracting/expanding. A solid piece will handle this better than one with holes drilled all over creating lots of stress points.

HELL NO! I know this first hand. I have had 2 sets of stock replacements and BOTH warped due to normal street driving. I put a set of crossdrilled and no warping in street driving, road racing, or drag racing. My stock brakes would GLAZE if I tried to stop quick on the highway. I don't have this problem with the CD.
