I have found its easier to put a ramp under the drivers front tire (or put the frontend up on jackstands, depends on how ambitious I am being) and crank the wheels to the left. I still manage to dump almost all the oil onto the subframe getting it out though.

Speaking of which, its due now. I am actually 15 miles over, rolled it tonite on my way home.

The Fram filter for the zetec is 16, you can get the PH16, DG16, or XG16... I use Purolator Pure One oil filters, I don't have the Part # handy, but go to your local Pep Boys, they have them... I believe the Purolator is around $6-7 and the Fram from Wal-Mart ranges from around $3 to $7... Use any oil as long as it is 5W30 it will be alright, Avoid Quaker State That is a recycled oil... And if you get your oil from Wal-Mart, DO NOT get the Super Tech, it is Quaker State oil, just bottled for Wal-Mart... But 87 cents a qt for the Super Tech, so if your cheap, that's the oil for you... But if you want a good oil and don't use syn. try Valvoline, Pennzoil, Mobil Drive clean, Havoline, those are what I would recomend... After you fill the car with oil and do a pressure check (start the car let it run for a min) take the cap off and let it sit for a min. Fords normally take a little while for the oil to drain back down... Or you could just put in a full 5 qts like I do... Won't hurt the car, and if you use the Purolator Oil filter it will only be about a 1/4 to an 1/8th qt over... I hope my mumbling has helped you

The 98 and newer Zetec uses a Fram 8316 oil filter...

Now, if you're REALLY good(like me )you can do the whole change without jacking up the car or removing the wheel or using a filter wrench. This is assuming your car isn't lowered though, the oil pan I use is too tall to fit under the oil pan so I DO have to raise the car just a bit. Take your arm and slide it under the throttle plenum but over the alternator and through some a/c hoses. You can fish your arm right down to the oil filter and twist it off. It takes some manuvering to get it off and out and get the new on back in but its possible and you don't have to slide around under the car.

Mobil 1 P/N = M1209 to fit my car(98.5), should be the same for other years.

Now if you weigh in at 300lbs like me, a jack will be required no matter how you look at it... I just jack up the right front of the car a little and crank the wheels all the way to the right, since the drain pan won't fit if I don't. I get the filter through the wheel well. It's as easy as that...

I'm not a big guy but there is no way I could get under the car without ramps or jacks or a car lift.

2003 Subaru WRX some mods Even if you don't have the answer, you certainly have to admire the problem. aka ZetecRacing

No problem. It helps to have long arms though.

That method certainly isn't for some but before I lowered the car I could reach the drain plug from the front of the car and the filter can come through by the alternator. It helps being tall with long ass um...appendages...

I've heard WAY too many horror stories about the "Orange" (Fram) filter to ever trust one on any of my vehcles. Go with the MotoCraft filter. It's a Ford part, and the bypass won't fail like I've heard happens on the Fram filters. And, BTW, Ford's MotoCraft oil is all I use in both my Fords. It's $1.75 a quart @Wally World. It is a mixture of dino based oil and synthetic. Wally World also has Mobil 1 SuperSyn for around $5 a quart, and $18 for the gallon size, but it only comes in 5W-30 and 5W-20 not only is better, it cools better. So in my hard working, high revving 2.0 liter goes MotoCraft 5W-20 and in my 6.8 liter V-10, which has a 5250 red line, OHC's, 310 HP and 430 Ft Lbs of torque goes NOTHING but MotoCraft filters, and MotCraft oil. Why mess with anything else ?

I guess the bypass valve clogs then no oil gets out of the filter, causing your engine to run dry. Hey the Motocraft filter is $1 or so more, why chance it ? Along with that the Motocraft filter is just better all around, better filtration, etc. Go to the Ford Truck Enthususiasts board and do a search for Fram filters, it may be worth your while, here is the address; http://www.ford-trucks.com/cgi-bin/dcforum/dcboard.cgi
