To the best of my knowledge the rings DO come chrome from the dealer so I'm not sure how accurate that body shop guys estimate was. I can't remember the members name either on here but somebody dips the rings in acid to strip the chrome and that is the only way to keep the paint lasting for a while. I personally would look in your local yellow pages for auto interiors or auto chrome or auto customs and find a shop that does chrome work. If they can't strip I'd bet they know someone who can. I would think there are shops in every state that can do chrome dipping or at least know where to get chrome related work accomplished. HTH.
