Well there are a couple possible ways....first, I asked the guy who did some recent body work for me if he could paint the oval, and he wouldn't do it because of the chrome on there, he said he could never get paint to stick on chrome. So he looked into it and said he could find a primered oval for $19. Some people have said that Ford only makes the oval in chrome, so it's interesting to see who's blowing smoke up my arse....so you may want to try that first. The other options are to sand all the chrome off down to the plastic, then paint over that; and someone somewhere has an acid they put the oval in to strip all the chrome off, but I don't know who that is. Good luck...hope I helped...

To the best of my knowledge the rings DO come chrome from the dealer so I'm not sure how accurate that body shop guys estimate was. I can't remember the members name either on here but somebody dips the rings in acid to strip the chrome and that is the only way to keep the paint lasting for a while. I personally would look in your local yellow pages for auto interiors or auto chrome or auto customs and find a shop that does chrome work. If they can't strip I'd bet they know someone who can. I would think there are shops in every state that can do chrome dipping or at least know where to get chrome related work accomplished. HTH.

Thanks, I guess doing it myself is out of the question. I heard about the sanding thing but that would really be a pita, I'm going to go down to a shop and see whats what. And If i can get a bare oval for $19 I'll be in heaven. I can paint on that and have my old one.

Yeah Spatt from Mich does this, Or at least did. I think no matter what it will chip though. Mine has some chips in it but i just was some touch up paint to cover it. But IMHO it looks pimp.

I don't know anything other than the above. The guy isn't a BSer, so maybe he knows something we don't. I am also not certain if the oval was a regular tour oval or an SVT oval, but I think they guy had his head on straight and looked into the SVT one. I'll give him a holler tomorrow and see what else he knows.
