Brought the SVT in to Dixie Ford today for an oil change and to have them try to fix a chronic high idle and throttle stick (not hang, the car accelerates in gear when this is happening), and to have a look at the tranny which is giving me a hard time trying to get her in to 1st or reverse. They called me and told me that they were waiting for the ESP rep to come by tomorrow to look at the tranny. They said it looks like it needs a complete overhaul??!!! What the heck does that mean? A new tranny? Rebuilt one?
They reprogrammed the computer and change a sensor to help the throttle problem.
In the meantime I am driving a POS Taurus that really stinks on the inside.
Damn!!!!

Good luck. Don't know how good it is when they need to call their own warranty company for permission. Might yeild you some new parts though.

Uggh, dont say that. I am just waiting for something like this to happen to me. Since I seem to be one of the highest mileage svt contours around. Guess you really shouldnt have taken it on the track, opps did I say that
BTW, do you have the part number for the SVT sill plates. I want some and they cant seem to find them.
See you tonight, hopefully, in your stinky taurus.

Laura the sill plate part # is 2M5Z5413208DA they sell for 37.77 each. SVTFERN don't let them overlook the clutch. I recall reading past posts about guys with this problem who had 3 and 4 trannies replaced before Ford realized the problem was with the clutch. If only the old forums were online for refrence.

Thanks. How did you know that part number? Do you have them. They are actually from the Focus.

I got the part # from Bill Jenkins when they first came out. It is on my Christmas list which I always keep handy. Don't know if I can wait that long though. I may see you tonight. About what time do you arrive?

The latest is that it looks like the synchros for 1st, 2nd & Reverse are the issue. I guess whenever the ESP guy comes around I will know for sure. Dixie won't tear down the tranny until they get the go ahead from ESP. I miss my beast!!!!! Hopefully I will get some new parts out this and the car will run better. I will keep a very close ear to the ground to see if this "fix" cures this long time problem with the tranny. Oh well, will keep you posted. BTW the door sill guards look great. A nice touch. It would look better on a darker car, but it is in keeping with my silver look.(silver head unit on car stereo, aluminum dash kit etc.) Oh well, will keep you posted. Fern

Good luck, hope it works out for you. I always enjoy when I get parts under warranty. Saddly though I always seem to come out ahead of what I paid for the warranty in the first place. Case in point, 80000km's on my z-tec mystique. Cracked cylinder #2. 1 rebuilt engine latter and aprox $5000 for the repair. Gotta love ESP!!
