Well its the same suspension issue with the rear thump. Have relocated the parking brake cables and replaced both links and top bushings for the rear swaybar (no change). (FYI its a 99 SVT with 45K). The thumb is getting real loud whenever I go over small bumps, as if the entire rear is loose. When the back was up, everything seemed tight(all i could do was pull at various components) and no springs looked broken. The struts seem fine from the simple up/down test. Any suggestions are really appreciated as this thing is getting real loud and friends no longer feel comfortable(ie safe) driving in the car.

You might check to make sure that the sway bay mounting brackets on the body are not bent/broken and that the bushing in them are intact.

Being in Mass, your bushings could be gone! A good jiggle test will usually find the problem. Take it to a shop to have them look at it if you can't find it!

Andy W. The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

I have a 99 SE and it sounds like the problem that I had around 45k miles. It was the rear struts. Once I got new ones, the sound went away. Hope this helps.

From other post reading I have suspected the struts. I wish there was a sure way to determine this. I went and did the sway bar bushing and links wiht no resolve, and so I dont just want to replace struts. The simple push test has them as "real tight" so any other ideas on how to verify the struts.

I had the exact same problem at around 45K too. It turned out that it was a blown strut. I'm kicking myself for having Ford fix it to the tune of $300. Coulda had an entire BAT kit for $600.

Moral of the story: Don't let Ford "fix" anything...they're fugging crooks!
