Cool little gizmo, but the drain plug isn't what I dread when changing my oil, it's the filter. I wish it was like my old VW: vertically mounted filter that could be reached from above in the engine bay. Talk about mess free.
Oil filter: break seal, let oil drain everywhere (and some into the catch pan). Wait 15 minutes. Give 1/2 turn, let oil drain everywhere. Wait 15 minutes. Spin filter off, spill hot oil all over your arms when it clears the interface. Drop filter on top of the screen in the drain pan. Curse Ford for 15 minutes. Wipe oil off everything. Replace filter, while saying to yourself that at least you have 5000 miles until that happens again.
Or buy Amsoil and change the filter every 12500 miles and oil every 25000 miles.Once a year.Filter twice a year![/b]
Not even maybe! [/b]WHy not Ive been doing it for years, did it on an SI,it had 135K on it when I traded it in.....never a problem, been doin it on the SVT since it got broke in....not ever a problem......dont be so negetive.
I have friends that sell the stuff, they have a FORD areostar with over 300k on it and never had a problem, they change it once a year also, just like AMSOIL recommends. It IS better than MOBIL 1 after all,do some reading on it youll be surprized.
I've known about Amsoil for about 20 years, its not anything new. We preformed load bearing tests with it and just about every other brand oil. In the test it did no better than any other synth. oil, However it did no worse either. I dont have a problem with the oil, its there marketing techniques I dont care for. I dont care how good the oil is the oil filter cannot filter all the contamination out of the oil for that period of time. The oil change period recomended is pure BS. Let me ask you this, Is Amsoil gonna warranty your engine if it blows following that oil change schedule? Because Ford sure isnt.
Never said it was something new either,as a matter of fact Amsoil was the very first syn oil out!
Besides my motor is not going to blow because of the time between oil changes. It will just last longer because I use Amsoil. You cant convince me other wise.
SORRY!
I know people who have used it for years and years
as have I.Never heard of any kind of problems.
You use the cheap stuff Ill use Amsoil.
End of story.
Thank you and have a nice day.
I'm not trying to convince you to change. You made a statement concerning oil change intervals that I dont agree with. Thats all. Go to Amsoils own website, they even say the life of the oil is 7500 miles or 6 months. As for your friends Areostar so what that doesnt mean anything. I have a DSM tubo[my work car] that has 203,000 miles on it and has never had a drop of synth. oil in it,so that in itself doesnt mean anything. The engine has never had any mechanical work done to it other than timing belt changes[every 75,000 miles] and routine maint. Good luck to you and have a nice day.
